Your privacy is our priority. SummarizeIt is designed with privacy at its core. All article summarization and sentiment analysis happens entirely on your device using Apple Intelligence. We do not collect, store, or transmit any of your data.

SummarizeIt does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

Article content or text you summarize
Browsing history or website URLs
Device identifiers or IP addresses
Usage statistics or analytics
Summaries or sentiment analysis results
Any other user data

How SummarizeIt Works

When you use SummarizeIt to summarize an article:

Text Extraction: The extension extracts text from the current webpage using JavaScript running locally in your browser
On-Device Processing: The text is sent to Apple Intelligence (Foundation Models) running entirely on your device
Local Analysis: Apple Intelligence generates a summary and sentiment analysis without any data leaving your device
Display Results: The summary is displayed in your browser
Text-to-Speech (Optional): If you use the Listen feature, your device's built-in text-to-speech engine reads the summary aloud. This also happens entirely on your device
No Storage: Nothing is saved or transmitted. When you close the summary, it's gone

Apple Intelligence & Privacy

SummarizeIt uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models (Apple Intelligence) for all processing. According to Apple's privacy principles:

All processing happens on your device
No data is sent to Apple's servers
Apple does not collect or store your content
Models run entirely offline once downloaded

Permissions Required

SummarizeIt requires the following Safari permissions to function:

Access to Webpage Content

Why: To extract article text for summarization
Scope: Only when you explicitly activate the extension
Data handling: Text is processed locally and never stored or transmitted

Native Messaging

Why: To communicate between the Safari extension and the native app component that accesses Apple Intelligence
Scope: Communication happens only on your device
Data handling: Messages contain only the text to summarize and results, never leave your device

Text-to-Speech

Why: To read summaries aloud using your device's built-in speech synthesis
Scope: Uses system-level text-to-speech, entirely on-device
Data handling: Summary text is processed by your device's speech engine, never transmitted externally

Data Storage

We do not store any data. SummarizeIt does not:

Save summaries to disk
Cache article content
Store browsing history
Keep logs of usage
Maintain any databases

When you close a summary, it is immediately discarded from memory.

Third-Party Services

We do not use any third-party services. SummarizeIt does not integrate with:

Analytics services (Google Analytics, etc.)
Advertising networks
Cloud services or APIs
Social media platforms
Any external servers or services

Cookies and Tracking

SummarizeIt does not use cookies, tracking pixels, or any other tracking technologies. We do not track your browsing behavior or collect any usage data.

Children's Privacy

SummarizeIt does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The extension is safe for users of all ages as it operates entirely on-device with no data collection.

Data Security

Since SummarizeIt does not collect, store, or transmit any data, there is no data to secure. All processing happens locally on your device, protected by your device's security features (encryption, biometric authentication, etc.).

Your Rights

Since we do not collect any personal data, there is no data to:

Access or download
Correct or update
Delete or erase
Port to another service

You maintain complete control over your data because it never leaves your device.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.

Since we don't collect any data, changes to this policy will not affect any data we hold about you (because we don't hold any).

International Users

SummarizeIt works the same way for all users worldwide. Since all processing happens on your device and no data is transmitted, there are no international data transfer concerns.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have certain rights regarding their personal information. However, since SummarizeIt does not collect any personal information, these rights do not apply as there is no data to access, delete, or opt-out from.

European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), European users have certain rights regarding their personal data. However, since SummarizeIt does not collect or process any personal data, GDPR obligations do not apply as there is no data processing to consent to or data to access.
