SummarizeIt is a Safari extension that uses Apple Intelligence to summarize web articles and analyze their sentiment—entirely on your device. No data leaves your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Device Requirements
SummarizeIt requires Apple Intelligence, which is only available on:
- iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or newer
- iPad: iPad with M1 chip or newer (iPad Pro, iPad Air)
- Mac: Mac with M1 chip or newer
- Software: iOS 18.0+ or macOS 15.0+
How to Use
- Open an article in Safari
- Tap the SummarizeIt icon in the toolbar or extensions menu
- Wait 15-90 seconds depending on article length
- Read your summary with sentiment analysis
- Listen to the summary by tapping the 🔊 Listen button (optional)
- Copy or share the summary using the buttons provided
Performance Expectations
- Short articles (< 2,000 words): 15-30 seconds
- Medium articles (2,000-5,000 words): 40-80 seconds
- Long articles (5,000+ words): 90-150 seconds
First use may take longer as Apple Intelligence initializes.
Known Limitations
- Very long articles (> 15,000 words) may be partially summarized
- Processing time can take up to 2-3 minutes for very long content
- Some sensitive content may be blocked by Apple Intelligence safety filters
- Requires supported device - will not work on older iPhones or iPads without M-series chips
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does it say "Apple Intelligence is not available"?
This means your device doesn't support Apple Intelligence. You need:
- iPhone 15 Pro or newer, OR
- iPad with M1 chip or newer, OR
- Mac with M1 chip or newer
Older devices cannot run this extension.
Why is it taking so long?
Long articles require more processing time. Articles over 5,000 words can take 90-150 seconds. This is normal and ensures quality summaries.
Why does it say "Article too long"?
Articles longer than ~15,000 words exceed Apple Intelligence API limits. The extension will summarize the first portion of the article, which typically contains the most important information.
Why was content blocked?
Apple Intelligence includes safety filters that may block extremely sensitive content (graphic violence, explicit disasters, etc.). This is an Apple platform limitation, not an issue with the extension.
Does this work offline?
Yes! Once a webpage is loaded, summarization happens entirely on your device. No internet connection is needed for processing.
What languages are supported?
SummarizeIt works with all languages supported by Apple Intelligence, including:
- English, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Japanese, Korean
- Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese
- Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Dutch, Polish, Turkish
- And many more
The text-to-speech feature automatically uses the detected language for natural pronunciation.
How does the Listen feature work?
The 🔊 Listen button uses your device's built-in text-to-speech engine to read the summary aloud in the detected language. This feature:
- Works entirely on-device (no internet required)
- Automatically selects the appropriate voice for the language
- Can be stopped at any time by tapping the button again
- Great for accessibility, multitasking, or language learning
Known limitations:
- May stop unexpectedly: Safari's text-to-speech can occasionally pause mid-summary. If this happens, tap Stop then Listen again to resume (it will restart from the beginning)
- No resume capability: Due to Safari limitations, playback always starts from the beginning when restarted
- Best for shorter summaries: Works most reliably with summaries under 200 words
These limitations are due to Safari's Web Speech API and cannot be fixed by the extension. For the most reliable experience, consider copying the summary and using your device's native text-to-speech features (Speak Selection on iOS/macOS).
Why is sentiment "Neutral" for news about conflicts?
Sentiment analysis measures the tone of the article, not the severity of the topic:
- Negative: Active attacks, disasters, casualties, crises
- Neutral: Analysis, commentary, political updates, stalled situations
- Positive: Peace agreements, breakthroughs, resolutions
An article about war can be Neutral if it's analytical rather than reporting active harm.
Troubleshooting
Extension not appearing
- Open Safari Settings → Extensions
- Enable SummarizeIt
- Grant permission for "All Websites"
- Restart Safari
Summaries are incomplete
Very long articles are automatically truncated to ensure reliable processing. The extension focuses on the beginning of articles, which typically contains the most important information (inverted pyramid structure in journalism).
Processing fails repeatedly
- Ensure you're on a supported device
- Check that Apple Intelligence is enabled in Settings
- Try a shorter article to verify the extension works
- Restart your device
- If issues persist, contact support

SummarizeIt processes everything on your device using Apple Intelligence. We do not:
- Collect any personal data
- Send article content to external servers
- Track your browsing history
